Post-doctoral position in the area of “Spatial metadata for cultural heritage sites”

The Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics (IACM) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) has an open position (research fellowship) for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of “Spatial metadata for cultural heritage sites”. The position is funded by the research project POLITEIA / NSRF 2007-2013 in which the Regional Analysis/Geoinformatics group of IACM (https://www.iacm.forth.gr/regional) participates. IACM is located in the city of Herakleion in the island of Crete in Greece.

Description

The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with others in the POLITEIA sub-project related to the specification of spatial data infrastructure for cultural heritage based on the INSPIRE directive. Additional research issues could be covered given the research interests of the successful candidate. The research in this sub-project is coordinated by Dr. Poulicos Prastacos. 
Necessary Qualifications 
• Ph.D. thesis in issues related to spatial metadata, ontologies for cultural heritage, semantic documentation of cultural heritage collections (historic maps), etc., 
• Participation in research / applied projects related to GIS/ web gis applications, use of ontologies,
• Publications in scientific journals / presentations at conferences focusing on the use of ontologies in issues of cultural heritage,
• Very good knowledge of a GIS software package and also of a software for the development of ontologies.
