Description The object of the entire project is to design devices that will help protect the juveniles of various species in the Greek seas. In order to do so, two kinds of devices will be produced: 1.Fish aggregating devices: smart devices that could be used to protect juvenile fish in the most vulnerable phase of their life in order to increase the fish population in a natural way through the decrease of the natural mortality. 2.Trapping devices: highly selective devices that can attract and trap mature fish, when it has almost concluded its life cycle. The object of the researcher to be employed is to design experiments in order to test fish behavior (in controlled laboratory conditions) with respect to the 2 devices mentioned above. Expertise in aquaculture and especially in fish maintenance in open and closed recirculating systems. Expertise in fish monitoring and behavior. The candidate should have also published scientific articles and have documented ability of designing and executing scientific experiments.

Necessary qualifications: -Biology degree -PhD in aquaculture -Experience in observation, study and documentation of fish behavior -English language -Scientific publications Additional qualifications: -Excellent knowledge in handling fish populations in open and closed circulating systems. In order to find the best proposal, the following criteria (through a point system) are evaluated: -Experience in observation, study and documentation of fish behavior (Max 30 points). Fully relevant to the job (5 points per month), partially relevant to the job (3 points per month), non relevant to the job (1 point per month). Up to 6 months -English language (Max 20 points). Excellent knowledge (20 points), very good knowledge (10 points),good knowledge (5 points) -Scientific publications (Max 30 points). In international scientific journals (peer review system) with «impact factor» above 0,5. More than 20 publications (30 points), more than 10 publications (20 points), more than 5 publications (10 points). -Knowledge in handling fish populations in open and closed circulating systems (Max 20 points). 0-6 months (10 points), 6-12 months (15 points), 12+ months (20 points). Τhe nominates have the right of objection towards the results of the valuation of the proposals only and exclusively for the questions of a legally proper procedure and for ethical issues, within 5 days from the next day of the raisal of the results into the website of the Special Account for Research Grants of the University of Crete. The object of the researcher to be employed is to design experiments in order to test fish behavior (in controlled laboratory conditions). The final goal of this position is to produce 2 reports: a) behavior of nocturnal species b) behavior of trapped species Expertise in aquaculture and especially in fish maintenance in open and closed recirculating systems is required. Expertise in fish monitoring and behavior. The candidate should have also published scientific articles and have documented ability of designing and executing scientific experiments.
The project is co-financed by the European Union (European Social Fund - ESF) and Greek national funds through the Operational Programme «Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship» (OPCE ΙΙ).Duration: 3 months
